*Physician assistants are skilled members of the health care team who provide diagnostic and therapeutic health care so that physicians can spend more time on complex patient problems. PA's provide a wide range of primary care as well as specialty care. The education of PA's is similar to that of medical students, although shorter in length. The first PA's began practicing in 1967. There are over 20,000 practicing PA's working in all 50 states in virtually all medical specialties and settings.
